What - Brian Copeland's
                The Waiting Period
Where -
The Marsh

       1062 Valencia St
                   San Francisco
When - Sun 5:30pm

Ticket Price - $30 - $100
About -
This show is an unrelenting look at a ten-day period in Copeland’s life—the mandatory ten-day waiting period before he could lay his hands on the newly purchased gun with which he planned to take his own life. Even in the midst of this tragedy, however, his wonderful sense of the comedy of life does not desert him (how much should he spend on the gun?), indeed serves him insidiously well as a buffer against the grim reality of his intention. Copeland hopes this very personal, and ultimately redemptive, story will reach people who struggle with depression—often called the last stigmatized disease—as well as their families and loved ones. Interspersed with interviews with other sufferers, the play, like so many Marsh stories, also offers outsiders an insider’s view, thereby expanding our understanding and, hopefully, our humanity. As critic Sam Hurwitt put it in The Idiolect: “It’s a play I’d strongly recommend to anyone who is now or has ever been depressed or who knows someone in that situation. But honestly, it’s such a strong piece that I’d recommend it just as heartily to anyone who’s ever been human.”

About -
Destiny. What makes us who we are? Is it nature or nurture? Willy Russell’s powerful musical, which ran for over 20 years in the West End, confronts that eternal question. They become close friends, struggling through two tumultuous decades, until the class system and love for the same woman tears them apart.

What - M. Butterfly
Where - San Jose City Lights

                  529 South Second St.
                  San Jose

When - Fri 8pm / Sat 8pm / Sun 2pm
Ticket Price - $17 - $30
About -
Drawn from real-life events, this modern classic weaves realism, ritual, and vivid theatricality into a haunting tale of a French diplomat’s gradual, inevitable submission to the charms of a Chinese opera star who personifies his fantasy vision of submissive oriental sexuality. The play underscores the irony of that fantasy as it parallels the events of Puccini’s opera Madama Butterfly and becomes a powerful exploration of East-West relations and the romanticism that clouds and complicates them to this day. Intended for mature audiences ages 17 and up.

When - Fri - 8pm / Sat - 8pm
Ticket Price - $20 - $35
About -
The defense and the prosecution have rested and the jury is filing into the jury room to decide if a young man is guilty or innocent of murdering his father. What begins as an open and shut case becomes a gripping mini-drama of each juror’s prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other. This poignant drama highlights how our justice system has evolved and changed. Or has it?

As Natalya risks everything she has to position herself in between the two, the destructive force of passion ripples through the rest of the estate. This gave Billy the unique opportunity to travel and work as an understudy for the legendary Carey Bell who was planning to leave the All Stars and form his own band. When Carey took his leave, the young Billy Branch took his place, touring with Willie Dixon for six years. In addition, he has won multiple W.C. Handy Awards from the Blues Foundation, an Emmy Award, an Addy Award (this is like an Oscar for TV ads), two Chicago Music Awards, and numerous humanitarian achievement awards.

Over a career spanning more than 40 years and nearly 50 albums, John Abercrombie has established himself as one the masters of jazz guitar. Favoring unusual sounds (he played electronic mandolin on McCoy Tyner's 1993 album 4x4) and nontraditional ensembles (recent quartet recordings have included violinist Mark Feldman), Abercrombie is a restless experimenter, working firmly in the jazz tradition while pushing the boundaries of meter and harmony." Abercrombie keeps up a heavy touring schedule and continues to record with ECM, a relationship that has spanned more than 30 years. As he told one interviewer, "I'd like people to perceive me as having a direct connection to the history of jazz guitar, while expanding some musical boundaries." That, no doubt, will be his legacy.

                  4444 Railroad Ave
                  Pleasanton

Ticket Price - $15 - $25
About -
The Firehouse Arts Center in partnership with award-winning Esses Productions presents Easter Parade in Concert, a cabaret tribute to the songs and scenes from the classic holiday film starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire. Four singers, two dancers, and popular music director Joe Simiele come together in this delightful professional production for the whole family. Presented in Cabaret style, the fresh new revue revisits favorite songs which have endured through generations, including Steppin' Out With My Baby, Shakin' the Blues Away, A Couple of Swells, It Only Happens When I Dance With You, and of course the classic Easter Parade.
Featuring World of Webber's wonderful Tielle Baker, along with Bay Area Theater stars Robert Dornaus, Shelby Deans-Flegel, and Tom Flegel, the show includes special guest dancers Brandon Freeman and Rachel Furst, with Music Director Simiele at the piano.

The most financially successful picture of their careers for both Garland and Astaire, Easter Parade follows the story of the seasoned nightclub performer who hires the naive chorus girl to become his new dance partner in order to make his former partner jealous. The 1948 film score by Irving Berlin features some of the pair's best-known and best-loved songs.

Astaire was coaxed back from "retirement" to play the starring role of Don Hewes, when Gene Kelly, who was originally cast as Don, broke his ankle playing volleyball (Really Gene? Not on a set somewhere?). The consummate dance-man Astaire would retire and "un-retire" several more times over the following decade, making a number of wonderful musicals.

About -
Dov Davidoff grew up in a junkyard, lost his virginity at the age of twelve with a prostitute in Mexico, and is incredibly funny (all true). Combining hyper ADD with an amusingly acute take on things- Davidoff puts on one of the most high intensity shows in standup- making himself an audience favorite. Voted Top Ten Comedy Albums of 08’ on iTunes and PUNCHLINE magazine, his CD, “The Point Is…” released on COMEDY CENTRAL RECORDS® proves exactly that point. Recorded live at the Comedy Works in Denver, CO, Davidoff’s CD captures this kinetic master at his best. It’s Davidoff’s impeccable ability to find common ground with EVERYONE that makes him a truly great comedian. He dissects the irony and problems of the world in a way that makes funny what otherwise isn’t. Dov reaches people in a way that not only makes people think and look at themselves, but laugh hysterically while doing so.

About -
Don Friesen is a modern suburban dad just trying to raise his kids and get through the day with a bit of money in the bank and a scrap of dignity intact. With a unique style that can best be described as frenetic and engaging, Don captures the irony of parenting, marriage and everyday absurdities through characters, voices, parodies and some of the best written routines around. He’s a wanna-be geek who constantly upgrades to the latest technology, but can never get it to work, leading to signature bits about tech support, Idiots Guides, texting and passwords.

You might have seen Don on Comedy Central's Live at Gotham or the nationally-syndicated Comics Unleashed. Friesen has recently taken his smart, savvy, and highly-caffeinated comedy to the stage at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA, for the taping of his new Showtime one-hour special titled "Ask Your Mom." In his first nationally released concert special, Don delivers a winning hour of clever, true-to-life “he’s talking about my family up there” comedy that manages to be adult-smart yet family-friendly.

Also appearing: Dustin Nickerson and Kate Willett.

About -
Rudy Colombini & The Unauthorized Rolling Stones:

For over a decade, Rudy Colombini & The Unauthorized Rolling Stones has been recognized as the premier Rolling Stones tribute band in the world. In 2014, founder and frontman Rudy Colombini expanded the band by adding all-star members from some of the world’s biggest acts, plus keyboards, sax, and a dynamite team of backup singers. The result was a quantum leap that has left other Stones tributes in the dust.

Insiders and die hard fans alike call Rudy & The Unauthorized, “better than the real thing.” David Patrick, Spectator Magazine photographer for The Rolling Stone’s First Twenty Years said it best: “They sounded more like the Rolling Stones than the Rolling Stones do. In fact, The Unauthorized Rolling Stones sang many of Stones’ songs better than the Stones!”

Experience the phenomenon that is Rudy Colombini & The Unauthorized Rolling Stones. Bring “The World’s Greatest Tribute to The World’s Greatest Rock N Roll Band” to your stage or event!
